Exporting Grades

To create a spreadsheet containing WebWorK grades, do the following:

  1. Click “Scoring Tools” from the Instructor Tools panel.
  2. Select the homework sets you wish to export (use Shift to select more than one).
  3. Make sure all three checkboxes are unselected.
    1. If you select “Include Index”, your spreadsheet will include WeBWorK's “success index”, which can be useful for measuring student understanding but which will likely not be useful to you in preparing grades. See http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/A_day_in_the_life_of_a_WeBWorK_instructor#Viewing_Student_Progress for more details on this option.
    2. If you select “Record Scores for Single Sets”, your spreadsheet will include not only each student's score on each problem set, but each student's score on each individual problem. This can be useful for evaluating individual problems, but, again, will likely not be useful to you in preparing grades.
    3. If you select “Pad Fields”, your spreadsheet will include spaces to make it easier to read in a web browser or text editor. If you use any kind of spreadsheet editor to read your spreadsheet, this option is unnecessary and possibly harmful.
  4. Click “Save selected set(s) and store to:” You can change the filename if you wish.
  5. The page will refresh and you will see a blue link with the filename of a spreadsheet containing the scores; click it to save.

You are then ready to format the grades to enter into Canvas.
